What's ahead:
The importance of focusing on outcomes rather than topics for content creation and how we use text replacements for efficiency

Wow, the resounding feedback on last week’s email is that you all want more tips on how we’re incorporating AI into our business processes (without losing our humanity in the process!)

That’s the most email replies we’ve had in a while!

We’re just over here wrapping up our content creation extravaganza by planning out our SEO-friendly Teachery articles (🎥 we recorded a video on that here if you’re interested) as well as auditing our 400+ WAIM articles to whittle it down to only the most helpful ones to migrate to our new Framer website, coming in July! 😍

Are you writing topic-first content or outcome-first content?

👩🏻‍🦰 👋: As Jason and I are getting back into content creation, I’ve been thinking a LOT about how to make more engaging content, faster.

After all, I think this is one of the biggest hurdles for solopreneur creators who want to stay small and not hire a big team: How do you make quality content consistently—without working 10 to 12-hour days?

Here’s one tip that I’ve discovered recently.

Figure out the OUTCOMES your ideal customer wants, and reverse engineer which topics you can talk about that will get them those outcomes.

For example, if I start with one of my topic categories for WAIM, I might write down “launching.”

Then, maybe I’d break that down into a few subtopics like launch planning, sales emails, affiliate programs, sales page design, etc.

In the past, I’d say, "Cool, let me create an Instagram carousel about sales emails." 🤔➡️ "8 topics for compelling sales emails." Not bad, but we can do better!

Coming up with content ideas in this way means that you’re creating content YOU care about (good!) but not necessarily content your customer cares about (shoot! not good!)

To ensure you’re creating something interesting to them AND to you, try this: Write down a massive list of all the outcomes, big and small, that your ideal customer wants for themselves.

Pro tip: If you get stuck, this is a perfect task for ChatGPT. Describe your ideal customer a bit, and ask ChatGPT to help you build a list of outcomes. Here’s what we came up with together.

NOW, go down the list of outcomes and try to match them up with your content subtopics.

So “more sales during their launches” might map to “sales emails” which brings me to this idea:

“Boost sales during your next launch with these 8 high-converting sales email formulas.”

Which of those do you think is more intriguing to our customer? Probably the one that directly addresses the OUTCOME they want help achieving.

Action Step: Write a list of your target customer’s desired outcomes, big and small. Then write a list of topics and subtopics you want to talk about in your content. Lastly, try to match up each outcome to a subtopic.

A tiny text hack to streamline your workflow

👨🏻‍🦲 👋: You know the four love languages (words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch)?

Well, I think they need to add a fifth one that’s efficiency 😂.

Because if there’s one thing in this world that makes my heart as happy as a warm tray of fresh cinnamon rolls, it’s doing small, repetitive things efficiently.

For years, I’ve loved using Text Replacements via Apple's keyboard shortcuts. What the heck is a text replacement? It’s very simple:

If I type (example) “aaa” on my keyboard, I get an option to replace that text with something I choose (ex: “myemail@netscape.com”).

While you’re only saving a few seconds here and there, the joy of not having to type repeatedly-used things is wonderful for my efficiency-focused heart. Here are a handful of shortcuts I use almost daily:

  • Mailing addresses

  • Phone numbers

  • Zoom meeting links

  • Login names

  • Silly phrases with my wife 😅

Here’s what my text replacement list looks like (and yes, I probably use “ccc” [👩🏻‍🦰👨🏻‍🦲] multiple times per day).

We use Apple products and I create all of my text replacements on my laptop and they sync between all devices in: 🖥️ System Settings > Keyboard > Text Replacements

If you’re a Windows user, I believe you can achieve this same functionality with (paid) apps like TextExpander and Phrase Express.

Text replacements are a small and simple example of setting something up once and using it to create repeatable predictability and time savings for years to come!
