A well-executed product launch strategy can make the difference between a successful launch and a flop.

We like using a 2-week open and closed launch. You build your plan of action 3 months in advance. You create a 4-week pre-launch marketing campaign. You sell your digital product confidently via your email list and social media.

Defining Your Product and Audience with an Irresistible Offer

The first step in the product launch process is ensuring you have a compelling offer that meets the needs and desires of your audience.

  • Identify the Core Topic: What problem does your product solve?

  • Specify the Outcome: What transformation will your customers experience?

  • Choose the Format: What is the best way to deliver this transformation (e.g., online course, ebook)?

  • Set a Time to Value: How quickly can customers expect results?

The next item is understanding your ideal customer and making sure you're speaking directly to them by knowing their:

  • Interests and Pain Points: What challenges do they face, and what are their goals?

  • Behavioral Insights: How do they consume content and make purchasing decisions?

The last thing you want to do is spend time crafting an email campaign, creating content for various social media channels, and spending time on other marketing efforts that are targeted at the wrong potential customer.

You Should Plan Your Launch Months in Advance

One of the biggest mistakes we see over and over again is a solopreneur plotting a launch day on their calendar without enough time to execute a successful launch plan.

We recommend a (minimum) 3-month launch timeline

A clear timeline with enough wiggle room (for life to happen!) ensures that all elements of your launch are well-coordinated.

Here's what an example 3-month launch timeline should look like:

  • 3 Months Before Launch:

    • You're organizing your launch plan and setting dates for everything

    • You're gathering valuable customer feedback on your product

    • You're outlining your full marketing plan

  • 4-6 Weeks Before Launch:

    • Your digital product is fully created and ready to be sold

    • You start posting social media content and using email marketing to show your customer base you can help them solve a problem

    • This pre-launch campaign (more below) warms your audience up while also delivering value to them

  • Week Before Launch:

    • Your sales page and sales emails should be completed (more below)

    • You've tested the buying flow of your actual product

    • You are establishing product launch goals (low and high goals) to manage expectations

    • You are feeling calm and at ease because you have a comprehensive product launch plan that is coming together!

  • Launch Week:

    • It's launch day!

    • Your sales email campaign should be sending (more below)

    • Use social media to remind your audience about the launch and share testimonials or case studies

    • Host live events, such as webinars or Q&A sessions, to interact with your audience

    • Highlight any early bird pricing, bonuses, etc

What do you share in your 4-week pre-launch campaign?

The 4 weeks leading up to your actual launch are some of the most crucial. It's important to share content with your audience around your digital product topic. You want to deliver value and we recommend plucking out 4 helpful lessons from your offer to share during this time.

Week 1: Send an email and post on social media about lesson #1 from your product. The goal is to educate your target customer.

Week 2: Share lesson #2 and remember to focus on a customer pain point you are solving.

Week 3: Share lesson #3 and start adding in valuable insights from beta testers who went through your product.

Week 4 (right before launch): Share lesson #4 and be very transparent about the price of your product and a final remidner of the launch date.

Crafting Engaging Sales Emails

Once your pre-marketing finishes, it's time to proudly sell your offer to your prospective customers!

During a 2-week launch timeline we recommend sending 9 total emails. There are 6 emails we see as mandatory:

  1. Announcement Email: Introduce your product and highlight the main benefits.

  2. Features and Benefits Email: Dive deeper into the features of your product and how they benefit the user.

  3. Testimonials and Case Studies Email: Share success stories and testimonials from beta testers or early users.

  4. Your personal WHY: Connect with your audience on a more personal level by sharing your WHY - why you created the product, what problem you wanted to solve, and how it has impacted your own life or business.

  5. Building trust: Showcase your expertise and credibility in your industry, which will strengthen your customers' confidence in your product.

  6. Last Chance and Cart Closing Email: Remind your audience about the limited time to purchase or special launch pricing. Emphasize the closing of the launch window and the benefits of buying now.

The 3 additional sales emails can focus on early bird pricing ending, a preview of the product, core product features, a live component (ex: webinar), an expiring bonus, etc.

During the 2-week launch, your social media campaign should coincide with the topics in your sales emails.

Writing Compelling Subject Lines

Your subject lines are crucial for enticing someone to open the emails. People's inboxes are incredibly crowded these days, so they need a reason to engage with your emails and actually click into them.

Example subject lines include:

  • "Unlock the Secret to [Desired Outcome]"

  • "Last Chance to Get [Product] at Launch Price!"

Designing a High-Converting Sales Page

We're not going to be able to cover all aspects of a high-converting sales page in a section of this article, but this list of items will give you a great starting point of the mandatory parts to include:

  • Attention-Grabbing Headline: Clearly state the main benefit of your product.

  • Compelling Subheadline: Provide a brief explanation of what the product is and who it’s for.

  • Detailed Features and Benefits: Explain what’s included and how it benefits the user.

  • Explain Who You Are: Why should someone buy from you? What expertise/differentiator do you bring to this topic/industry?

  • Social Proof: Include testimonials and case studies.

  • Clear Call to Action: Make it easy for visitors to purchase with prominent buy buttons.

  • FAQ Section: Address common questions and objections.

Again, there's a lot more complexity that goes into an awesome sales page, but that should absolutely get you started!

Executing Your Product Launch Timeline

By starting your product marketing plan well in advance, you can absolutely execute a calm, stress-free product launch.

Outlining your plan of action in your favorite project management tool (we love Notion), putting to-dos on your calendar, carving out time for email/social content creation, writing sales copy for your sales page and sales emails, and (of course) having a great product that actually solves a problem for your customer will help you achieve product launch success!
